Alexander arrived in the UK in February 1961, aged 19.

He obtained his British Passport in 1971 and it expired in 1981.  He paid £10 for the passport and £5 to register as British.

When it expired he was told he had to apply for a St Lucian passport and that was the beginning of his problems.

Two other respondents are currently locked out of the UK; one in Trinidad and one in Canada.  Both had British passports which expired after St Lucia became independent.  Their consulates refused to help them because they are ‘not British’.
