It was the occasion of the Caribbean Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) of April 2018 that forced the UK government to first apologise for the bureaucratic violence inflicted upon those impacted by the scandal. Caribbean High Commissioners, such as the Barbados High Commissioner to the UK Guy Hewitt and the Saint Kitts and Nevis High Commissioner to the UK Kevin Isaac, played a key role in pressuring for justice and advocating for the rights of Caribbean nationals and their descendents living and settled in the United Kingdom.

Notably, the former head of the Barbadian government’s Commission for Pan-African Affairs David Comissiong wrote to CARICOM in protest. On this page, you can listen to the project’s in-depth interviews with Caribbean High Commissioners, government officials and civil registration specialists. This includes an interview with Aloun Ndombet-Assamba, former Jamaican High Commissioner to the UK and Deryck Murray who twice won the Cricket World Cup for Trinidad and Tobago.
